Frequently asked questions

RV solar and off-grid power questions.

The right answer often depends on the entire electrical system, not a single component rating.

Can RV solar and batteries run an air conditioner?

Yes, but the system has to be designed for both the running load and startup demand. Battery capacity, BMS current limits, inverter size and surge capability, DC wiring, fusing, A/C efficiency, ambient temperature, and solar recovery all affect practical runtime.

How much solar do I need on my RV?

The right amount depends on your daily energy consumption and how quickly you want to recover it. We prefer to estimate your loads first, then size the array around the available roof area and recharge target.

How many lithium batteries do I need?

Battery quantity depends on usable watt-hours, inverter loads, desired runtime, available space, and each battery's BMS limits. Amp-hours alone do not tell the whole story.

Can you add solar to my factory solar-ready RV?

Usually. Factory solar-ready wiring can be useful, but conductor size, routing, connectors, controller capacity, and battery compatibility should be verified before expanding the system.

Can you upgrade an existing solar installation?

Yes. Existing panels, charge controllers, batteries, inverters, and wiring can be evaluated individually. A good upgrade may reuse some components and replace only the limiting parts of the system.

Do you install LiFePO4 batteries?

Yes. Lithium conversions should account for charging voltage, low-temperature charging protection, battery BMS ratings, cable sizing, overcurrent protection, disconnects, and the existing converter or charger.

Do I need an inverter/charger?

Not always. An inverter is needed when you want 120V AC power from the battery bank. An inverter/charger can also handle shore or generator charging and may simplify a larger integrated system.

Can you build a smaller system just to maintain batteries?

Yes. Projects can range from simple low-wattage solar maintainers to complete high-capacity off-grid systems.

How much does RV solar installation cost?

Standard installed starter systems currently begin at $399 for 100W, $599 for 200W, and $899 for a 400W-class system. Premium equipment and complete lithium/off-grid systems vary by components and installation requirements.

What does standard installation include?

Published installed pricing assumes suitable roof space and condition, reasonable electrical access, a typical cable route and no existing problems that must be repaired first. If non-standard work is needed, it will be discussed before proceeding.

Can you install equipment I already purchased?

Potentially. Customer-supplied equipment can be installed after a compatibility and safety review. Equipment that is incompatible, unsafe, damaged, or unsuitable for the intended application may be declined.

Do you provide mobile installation?

Service options depend on project scope, location, weather, and whether the work can be completed safely at the RV's location. Contact us with the RV and project details.

What information should I send for a quote?

The RV year/make/model, photos of the roof and current electrical equipment, battery and inverter information if present, what you want to run, how long you want to camp without hookups, and your location are all helpful.

Still figuring out what you need?

That's fine. Start with what you want to power and how you use the RV.
